To abort or not to abort?

Thousands of female foetuses are aborted in India every year. I agree that it is a really bad practice and sex determination of foetus has to be curbed to prevent this practice.

But if sex is not known, then what is your stand on abortion? If a women does not want to have a baby, is it OK to terminate the pregnancy? Or is it completely unethical?

Why is abortion wrong ? Let us discuss abortion

With sex determination becoming possible with advanced equipments, female fetuses are being terminated. This is inhuman act as females have the right to be born as they are destined to. Some people go for abortion even after the fetus develops which is highly unethical. Women bearing child should understand as they themselves are women and avoid fetal killings.

    Abortion Debates

Abortion in the case of killing female fetus is completely unethical and the women should be the first one to revolt against it. But otherwise if the woman is mentally not ready to take up the responsibility, then going for this with mutual consent seems a wise decision, rather than neglecting the child because of ambition. Secondly many time women undergo an evil peril, which requires such an action and if the family condition are not favorable then instead of increasing population and child labour, it is better to go for this and take appropriate safety measure to avoid the same situation in future. Other countries have legalized abortion to take control of population, child labour and crime.

I think it is one of the fundamental rights of a woman. We should not interfere in her rights. Just banning abortion or gender selection, we not solve this problem. The market for abortion will be driven underground.
This is like the problem of cigarette. We know that cigarette kills, but we cannot outlaw it.

I only agree with gender selection in preventing hereditary gender-based diseases. And gender selection should only take place before a human life is created. Abortion is unethical and it certainly should be banned in India.

it is true that science has its pros and cons. due to the technology we can scan the uterus and find the gender of the baby, but this is being misused by the people. it is the old age culture without any rationale to give more importance to men than men. in todays world both the genders share equal part and so these irrational abortions must be avoided.

Abortion brings many complications. There are many parents who go for sex determination and sex check. They usually get their child abort if they find it a girl. This is a common practice that is in use since ages. This is not done and completely wrong. Abortion not only can create the problem of infertility but it can also be dangerous to life of a woman. Though this practice is banned but still some greedy doctors for few bucks tell the sex of the child and get it abort if the parents needed.

I absolutely agree with your thoughts. Science has developed so many things and made so many technologies that sometimes it proves to be a bane for the indian mothers. Ultra sound techniques at one side is useful in finding the problem with the uterus and the abdomen but on the other hand the idea of knowing the gender by the parents is completely wrong.

Abortion in India is rising high. As per the report, abortions in Asia declined from 33/1000 women in 1995 to 29/1000 women in 2003. But one in 8 maternal deaths in this region results from unsafe abortions. Over 2.3 million women are hospitalized annually for treatment of complications of unsafe abortions. The proportion of married women using contraception increased freedom 54% in 1990 to 63% in 2003.

Though it is a right of the women to undergo abortion or not, in my view they should not undergo abortion if the child has exceeded 20weeks of age. This is because life almost forms at that age and carrying out abortion would mean killing a life. Rather abortion could be taken up at early stages if the women feel like not continuing.
