With old age come different physical problems, especially the joints become weak and painful. Old age brings limitation and restrictions as well one feel little restricted in doing many activities which were not that tough to do earlier. Pain in the joints is one of the adverse effects of the old age, coping with pain in joints seems tough sometimes, the old person feels restless and helpless just wants to get rid of the pain of joints. Following are the points to be followed in order to cope with the pain in joints and muscles in old age: •Keep changing positions: old person should keep changing the sitting positions in every 15 minutes, sitting for long hours in a same position would lead to severe pain in joints of knees, back and neck. Thus changing position is one of the points to be kept in mind. After every short interval one should walk a little or stretch the body to mobilize the joints. •Walking: walking is a good activity for an old person; mind it I am not saying brisk walking but simple walking. It would keep your body, knee, ankle and back joints moving and would also make them strong and firm. 15 minutes walking everyday is a must for any old person. •Avoid strenuous activities: in the old age the person should avoid certain strenuous activities such as lifting up heavy things, lifting filled buckets, running, dragging heavy objects and etc, this would worsen the pain in joints and might also hurt them. •Taking supplements and good diet: supplements of Calcium, Vitamin D3 and other Minerals are quite essential in the old age thus taking the supplement on regular basis should be done. One can consult the doctor before taking such supplements. Good diet is one of the important things in old age, a good diet filled with nutrients, proteins and vitamin C and D helps in reducing the joint pain. •Ask for help: in old age one does require an extra help at some or other time, so one should not hesitate in asking for help from the young ones of any assisting person. Friends and family members should voluntarily help the old persons and it can be done other way round as well.
