The Election Commission on Friday announced assembly elections in Jharkhand in five phases, beginning November 27.

The Commission said voting will be held on November 27 and December 2, 8, 12 and 18. The counting of votes will be held on December 23.

Jharkhand has been under President's Rule for the last nine months. The Union Cabinet had on Thursday approved dissolution of the 81-member assembly, paving the way for elections to be held.

President's Rule was imposed in the state on January 19 after then chief minister Shibu Soren lost a by-election and had to resign.
