“Let your boys test their wings. They may not be eagles, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t soar free.”
― C.J. Milbrandt, On Your Marks: The Adventure Begins
The daunting hours of catastrophic silence post our education tenure seems too long when we watch our peers getting jobs, exploring the real world. A feeling of confusion arises when we desire to venture out of our comfort zone. A zone of lifestyle that our parents create for us. At a certain stage, we wish to open new horizons for our dream job. During that phase the only thought slipping through our mind is to find a way to convince our parents to grant us the freedom to explore the job opportunities irrespective of the place.
But it is easier said than done. Parents are mostly rigid with their thinking process and it certainly takes a lot to convince them. Nevertheless they have their reasons to uphold a particular ideology for they have experienced life before we can explore and experience. To break across their rigid walls of perception, the youth ought to put across their views in a manner that credits and satisfies their psychology.
BUILD A BOND OF TRUST
Every effort of an individual yields result, all it demands is profound dedication and perseverance. The base foundation for every relationship is trust. So firstly it is important to build a bond of trust with our parents. Only when the basis of trust manifests in the bond with our parents, we would be able to express our ideas. Human interaction functions solely on the grounds of communication. Dialogues open the gateway of solution hence convincing our parents to let us work out of town would be easier when we make communication effective on the grounds of trust.
BE CLEAR WITH YOUR PLAN
Secondly, it is important to be clear with our ideas. That would mean, doing proper research before presenting our ideas to our parents. Doubts can harbour mistrust; hence everything needs to be lucid while communicating the plan.
MAKE A STRONG ARGUMENT WITH EFFECTIVE REASONING
Building trust for effective communication would eventually lead to the third factor of explaining the opportunities available outside. Reasons need to be realistic enough to make any argument strong. A proper research would make it simpler in that case. To work in another town would certainly pertain to the perks available there. From better infrastructure, to the exposure, work environment, brand tag, to the salary, all of it adds to the list. Make every reason seem realistic with the enthusiasm of going there.
BE CONVINCED TO CONVINCE THEM
Before convincing parents, it is important to be convinced first. Do I really want to explore the job opportunities of another town knowing that the comfortable lifestyle available at home would be short lived? Is it worth taking the risk ?
Only when we as individuals are absolutely convinced, we can share our conviction with our parents.
GIVING ASSURANCE FOR A BETTER FUTURE
Assuring them about a better future is necessary so that our decision does not make them panic and worrisome. It all comes down to the faith that we have within ourselves to manifest our desires. Parents always desire the best for their children, so if the child wants to follow his/her dreams, it is imperative to build a relationship of trust with effective communication.
