Renault Kwid has been the car that single handedly took the sales through the roof in India. The Kwid has been around since last October and has gained a lot of traction in market. Renault has today added an all-new engine in the Kwid to make it compete against the likes of Maruti Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon. The more powerful Kwid is only available with the top-end variants and comes with the similar features as the Kwid 0.8-litre. The new Kwid is already up for sale and here is what we think about the car.
Looks
The Kwid has an imposing look. It is the best looking car in the segment and the SUV inspired looks of the Kwid sure is one of the stronger selling point of the car.The bulky body of the Kwid makes it stand tall on the road. It looks much better and bigger than the cars from higher segment.
The Kwid comes with certain interesting design elements, the headlamps are big and bold, the indicators are housed in the same instrument cluster as the headlamps. The car body is beautifully sculpted with strong bulges. The Kwid is targeted at the young customers and it sure is designed brilliantly to do that. There are no two ways about the looks of the Kwid, it wins the best looking award from the segment hands-down.
Interior
The Kwid is one loaded vehicle in the segment. The car feels premium and comes with a touch-sensitive display – first in the segment and it is the only car to offer this feature. For the price it comes for, the Kwid offers a lot. The touch-screen infotainment also provides function for Bluetooth, and entertainment options. This is the same console that is available with the Renault Duster and Lodgy.
To increase the premium feeling, Renault has used the chrome generously on the knobs and buttons on the dashboard. The all-digital cluster makes the interiors look extremely good and sporty.
The car is very spacious from inside but would not be able to fit three passengers on the rear seat. The space is very well managed in the car and there are a lot of pockets to keep your knick knacks and other small objects.
Engine
Now this is the biggest change in the new Kwid. The 1.0-litre SCE is a new engine that goes into the Kwid for the first time. The same engine will power a lot of Renault cars around the world. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission and maximum power of 67 Bhp which is extremely good for a car of this weight.
Should I buy one?
Renault is priced this car very smartly. The more powerful Kwid costs only Rs. 22,000 more than the normal version of the Kwid and it is worth the extra money. The car offers a lot of customization options and starts at Rs. 3.83 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Kwid looks youthful and offers a lot of customization option. If you are in the market looking for a smart hatchback that can be fun to drive in the city limit, this is the one to go for! Renault is also working to bring down the waiting of the car and has already increased the production making it even more irresistible.
