The Maruti Suzuki DZire is India’s best selling compact sedan. Maruti launched the all-new version of the DZire and it has been built from ground up. The sub 4 metre sedan has dropped the Swift name as it is no longer based on the hatchback and it also becomes India’s only compact sedan that does not share a platform with a hatchback. We drove the car in Goa this week and here’s everything that you need to know about the DZire.

Looks

The new DZire looks way better than what it used to be. The new DZire is wider now, it is shorter in height and gets a longer wheelbase. The car is based on an all-new Heartect platform, the same one that also underpins the Baleno. Maruti certainly has done a great job with limitation of 4 metres.

From the front, the DZire gets an all-new face. There is a trapezoidal grille with thick chrome outline. Almond shaped headlamps are positioned on the either side and the DZire becomes first car in the segment to feature LED projector headlamps.

Due to lower height, the A-Pillar and the C-Pillar are more raked now, giving it a true sedan outline. DZire also gets 15-inch precision cut alloy wheels that look very opulent. From the rear, the car gets a slight boot integrated spoiler, just like Ciaz and all-new tail lamp unit that also gets LED lamps.

Interiors

Maruti has updated the interiors thoroughly. The car gets dual tone black and beige interior with wooden inserts. The faux wood inserts are placed on the dashboard, door panels and the steering wheel. The is a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The steering has been updated too. It now gets flat-bottom layout with wooden inserts. There is a small remote for controlling the infotainment system too.

The rear passengers now get an AC vent and a charging socket. The increased wheelbase translates into roomier interiors with extra knee room. The wider body allows more shoulder room too. The car’s boot has now increased by 60-litres and it now stands at 376-litres. The DZire also comes with standard ABS and dual airbags across all the variants.

Engine and drive

The new DZire is powered the same set of engines that powered the last generation of the vehicle. While the power output remains the same, the new platform makes the car quicker and fun to drive. The DZire comes in four types – petrol manual, petrol AMT, diesel manual and diesel AMT.

We only drove the diesel version of the vehicle. The noise and cabin insulation has become a lot better, which means the car has become quieter. Maruti has also updated the engine mounts that causes very less vibrations

The suspension and the transmission have been tweaked according to the new weight and the car has become a breeze to drive. The DZire offers much better handling and driving experience than the older version all thanks to the weight loss.

The DZire is the best seller in the market by a huge margin. Maruti has only made the bestseller even better by giving it all the sedan like characteristics. The car will gain much more popularity in the market with the new face and updated features. DZire starts at Rs. 5.45 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.41 lakh. There is no doubt that DZire has become younger and it offers four types of combination to attract any type of buyer. If you are looking for a reliable vehicle, the DZire will be the one to get.
